WOMAD and Regretness

Mad Womad! Wow, What a yesterday show. It's a super cool show i've ever seen (but still, i put my kanYe on the #1 spot). more than 5 years since i first knew about the show from MTV, finally i watch it myself. I just can't say nothing but cool word. I watch a one man band name Muntu Valdo from Cameroon and he played guitar, harmonica and also sing. It's interesting because he also bring along his looping machine and he recorded some of his guitar playing and looping themself. But my interest became even greater when i watch a Japan band named Oki Dub Ainu Band. The frontman were playing an instrument called Tonkori. It's a kind of string music instrument with 5 strings and u can just play 5 notes. If you want to play another notes, u gotta stop and tune them first. (What The??). Why i say this band is incredible? Simply they crazy. I never heard a live band before, perform modern music blend with the traditional as good as it is. Yes, it's usually like that. I dont like when i listen World music that blends with the modern one in a CD. But, it become very good when u hear it Live. They blend all funk, to reggae with the Ainu traditional music. Simply i say crazy. You should watch it yourself because i cant describe it only with words, you must see it yourself in order to believe it ;) (Happy to whom not see but believe) hahaha. And then, i ran again to another stage with a performer who's Nick say they're Taliban, simply because two of them wore something that makes us say that they are Taliban...hahaha, u crazy Nick. The band name was Etran Finatawa and they are from Niger. It was Interesing because one thing, i never heard sound like them before, because they perform a very down to earth traditional music (it means they don't blend it with modern music) and that's awesome, that's the thing i been looking for, not some cheap shit...hahaha. Funny thing was, see the frontman, i thought the frontman was a woman, because he sang in very high pitch just like a woman. Whole of band cannot speak english at all except Halo and Thank You (Even says Thank You only one person). That's not the point anyway, what makes the frontman very funny was, i think he really wants to interact with people, because he can't speak English at all, he just say Hello so many times...first is only soft Hello. Then continue with more louder HELlo, and finally he shouted HELLO which makes everyone laughed including me. If i were in front row, i must be shouted at him first for real, coz he was so funny.....

*sleep time coz i cannot take it anymore and it's almost 1.10 AM*
...............ZZZZzzzZZzZZZZzZzzZzZZzZZZZzzzz...............

Hi boys and Girls. I'm back again....

and that was monday, 27th August 2007 and im writing right now is on Wednesday, 29th >it's almost Merdeka Day for Malaysia ;)

anyway, back to the story..

After i went to see those guys from Niger, i was really excited. The Oki Dub Ainu Band held a so called "Workshop" show and at the same time, David D'or, a guy from Israel was performing. I didnt really interested for the group cause the comment says...."A Perfect blend of POP (duh!), Classic and World Music..."

*sigh*

i can imagine how it is, plus he has a look like Josh Groban...duh...

No way, so i just watch Oki Dub Ainu Band so called "Workshop"....actually, i keep questioned myself whether i watch oki dub or david d'or, because before that, i watched oki dub already. Maybe i can get some of their so called "ilmu" hahaha so i watched the "Workshop"

The workshop started late, so it wasted 30minutes over there.

The show started. The frontman began to introduce himself and how his music was and started to play his boring Tonkori, because it's just play 5 notes, and if you want to play different kind of notes, u need to tune it..>
He kept on playing....and kept on saying that his music instrument only can play 5 notes...

playing...

performing...

playing...

performing...

wth...that wasnt a workshop. That was a little showcase...duh!

in the middle of what so called "workshop", Nick received a phone call from his mom saying that his mom is around Singapore and maybe asked him for a lift to back to JB probably at 12. So, after he hung up, he told me that...

...."Dude, my mom is around, so i'll go back with them...."

*bang*

and i was out that time...really, i couldn't think anymore

but he offered me the lift also, but really...i totally lost my mood at that time, knowing he didnt say any reason why he also want to go home that fast because there were some performers left and he just say, he didn't interested at them at the rest....so....
I just stay silent and thinking hard that time what will i do cause i just had $50 and Jenny didn't contact me that time

back to the little showcase so called a "Workshop", and also in the middle of the show, probably at 11.30 when the Brazillian band perform, we left because we didnt get something meaningful that time, so we left. I really lost my mood and everytime Nick asked something that he laughed about or interest about, i just smile and....shit.....i really didnt enjoy the rest of the show.

His mom called him again to be ready on the front, so i bought mineral water because i was so thirsty and he approached me and say ..."let's clear this problem"...."so why i need to go back home now because i dont feel well..."

*bang*

that's the point, why he didnt just say so?
*sigh*

ok, i understand now. So im back in the mood suddenly but still i regret it when i left the show. I spent my 30$ for Womad t-shirt
and then i SMS jenny and she suddenly reply me and told me to go to Orchard road but it was too late coz i was broke. I only had
20$ that time....So actually i can stay but knew that she didn't contact me at all so, yah...we left...

but, what a show...that was incredible ;) for sure i'll watch it again next year...maybe Nick will perform there :p

*it's nice*
